Lu & Co. is a customization studio specializing in freehand chainstitch embroidery and live, on-site personalization. We create one-of-a-kind pieces using a mix of vintage and modern techniques... chainstitched, heat pressed, branded, or engraved all in real time.

What is chainstitch embroidery?

Instead of using digital files or pre-programmed designs, every stitch is drawn by hand in real time... much like writing or drawing with thread. Using an antique Singer chainstitch embroidery machine, we guide the fabric freely, allowing for fluid lettering and one-of-a-kind designs you simply can’t replicate. Guests get to watch the embroidery come to life on the spot, turning apparel and accessories into personalized keepsakes with visible craftsmanship, vintage character, and lasting impact.


Is your embroidery really done freehand?

Yes... completely freehand!
No stencils, no tracing, no digital files. Each design is drawn with thread as it’s stitched, making every embroidered piece truly one of a kind.


What is heat pressing?

Heat press uses pressure and heat to apply graphic designs or patches to hats and textiles, allowing for bold graphics, clean lettering, and fast turnaround.  Heat pressing is especially great for events with high volume.


What is leather branding?

Our event-safe laser leather branding process uses no open flames or hot irons, making it ideal for indoor (and outdoor) events, corporate activations, conferences, trade shows, and private gatherings. Guests watch their leather item transform in real time as names, logos, or custom designs are branded on the spot... creating a durable, high-quality keepsake that delivers serious wow factor.

Do you offer live customization at events?

Yes! Live, on-site personalization is one of our specialties. Guests can watch their item being stitched, pressed, embossed, or engraved in real time... and take home something made just for them.

Where are you located? Do you travel?

We’re based in North Carolina and travel nationwide for events and activations. Travel details are always clearly outlined in event proposals.


How long does customization take at an event?

Timing varies by service and design, but most pieces are completed in under a few minutes. Watching the process unfold is part of what draws a crowd.


How far in advance should I book an event?

The earlier the better.  Especially during busy seasons!  That said, last-minute inquiries are always welcome if availability allows.


How should I care for my customized item?

We recommend gentle washing and air drying for textiles. Leather and engraved items should be handled with care to maintain their finish.


What if I don’t know which customization method I want or need?

That’s totally okay. We’ll help guide you based on the item, design, and setting... especially for events where flow and experience matter!
